Step-By-Step Guide: How to File an Insurance Claim on Your Roof
So it’s been determined you need roof repairs or a complete roof replacement – now what? How do you file your roofing insurance claim? What do you do? Where do you start? Dealing with your homeowner's insurance company can often time be overwhelming for some. Specialized Contractors, LLC wants to make the process as simple and stress-free as possible and will handle the claim process for you if needed. We’ve provided a step-by-step breakdown of how the roofing insurance claim process works so your project can be completed as soon as possible.
- Call in Your Claim to Your Insurance Company – After you’ve had a roofing contractor assess your roof and it’s been determined that you need repairs or a replacement, then and only then will you contact your homeowner's insurance company. You cannot file a roofing insurance claim until damage has been confirmed by a reputable contractor. - Schedule with an Insurance Adjuster – Once a claim has been started an insurance adjuster will call and let you know when he/she needs to come inspect the roof. You don’t have to be at home for this, but some homeowners like to be present. If you already have a roofing contractor chosen you will need to let them know when the roof is being inspected also.
- Receiving the Estimate Letter and Check – After the adjuster inspects the damage to your roof, he will determine a value and write an estimate for the work that needs to be done. The estimate will show, in detail, everything that needs to be done. In addition to the roof, they may include gutters, windows, painting, vents, etc. The check will most likely be included in the estimate letter and should cover the cost of repairs.
- Completing the Work – Once you receive the estimate letter and insurance check, your roofing contractor can start repairing or replacing your roof. If the contractor also handles the other work, such as gutters, vents, or other items, that portion of the project will be completed at or around the same time as the roof. If the roofer does not handle the additional repairs noted on the estimate, then you will need to find contractors that do those other things.
